Hobbiton Movie Set, New Zealand – 2017. The Hobbiton Movie Set is a 12 acre area on the Alexander family 1,250 acre sheep and cattle farm about 10 km southwest of Matamata, New Zealand. Originally it was a temporary movie set started in 1999 for the filming of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. It was rebuilt in 2009 with pertinent structures for the filming of The Hobbit Trilogy. The village includes forty four Hobbit Holes, a mill and bridge, Green Dragon Inn – the complete Shire.
